Mr Dan McAlpine, MAPS
Dan McAlpine is a Newcastle based Consulting Psychologist whom is fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA). Dan received a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from The University of New England and then received a Post Graduate Diploma (Psychology) from Monash University (Caulfield Campus). Dan is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) .He holds the Senior Psychologist position at Oracle Psychology and provides Supervision to other team members. Dan is a Board Approved Supervisor with the PsyBA.
Dan has had over 20 years working within the child protection and welfare services and specifically, with children and young people who have experienced severe trauma or neglect. His primary responsibilities focused on helping these young people to develop skills and strategies to manage the impact of complex trauma. Dan understands that complex trauma profoundly influences the psychological, emotional and social development of affected children and he uses this knowledge within his day to day practices.
Dan believes that Children who feel calm relaxed and safe tend to adjust to different settings better, they tend to learn better and have better relationships with their families. These principles are fundamental to being 'trauma informed' and are also fundamental to working with children and adolescents in general.
Dan has a particular interest in the treatment and assessment of complex trauma, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety and Depression in children adolescents and adults. Dan uses a range of evidence-based practices that include Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Solutions Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Good Lives and positive behaviour support practices.
