Ms Merel van Emmerik, MAPS
Merel van Emmerik is a Psychologist in Newcastle whom is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She received a Bachelor of Psychology (BPsych) from The University of Newcastle. Merel has experience working as a Psychologist across the lifespan providing evidence-based therapy in various settings such as private practice, Out of Home Care (OoHC), the disability sector and rehabilitation services.
Merel has experience and training in a range of different treatment modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Motivational Interviewing. she has experience working with a range of presentations including Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), mood disorders, anxiety, chronic pain, stress, complex trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and work-related issues.
Merel has a particular interest in therapeutic parenting and crisis intervention, positive behavioural support and trauma recovery. This includes skills and experience in the development of Behaviour Support Plans (BSP) incorporating the use of Restrictive Practices. She is passionate about collaborating with relevant others including health professionals, family and schools. Through a variety of mediums and evidence-based practices, Merel seeks to assist people to meet their individual goals.
