Psychological Court Reports and Assessments
Our experienced Psychologists act as objective expert witnesses in order to conduct assessments for individuals and families requiring an evaluation for the purpose of legal proceedings. We provide psychological Court services to clients of all ages. These services are delivered to provide an objective expert opinion to the Courts regarding the psychological factors in question.
We are qualified to conduct comprehensive assessments and compile detailed reports which may be of use to the Court. Psychological Court assessments can include psychometric and neuropsychological testing, as well as thorough interviews with individuals, families and relevant stakeholders. The structure of the assessment will vary depending on the nature of the psychological factors in question for the purpose of the legal proceedings.
If you believe that a Court assessment and report may be required, you should discuss this with your legal representative so they can provide advice specific to your individual circumstances. If it is agreed that you would like to proceed with an assessment your legal representative should directly contact our Principal Psychologist, Mr Daniel Wendt, via email. After the details of your case have been considered, in collaboration with your legal representative, we will then compile a quote for your approval.
The total fee for Court assessments and reports varies depending on the amount of time required for the clinician to efficiently and effectively complete a comprehensive evaluation. This will differ based on the complexity of the case, history and domains requiring assessment. More complex cases may necessitate additional billable hours.
We base our Court assessment and report fees on the APS National Schedule of Recommended Fees. This is calculated at a rate of $260.00 (not including GST) per hour of case work including face to face contact, phone calls, examination of documentation, observations, individual assessment and report writing time. Any additional (above the quoted price) travel time, attendance at court or other legally required activity will also be billed in accordance with the corresponding APS National Schedule of Recommended Fees. In some instances we require external case management through Unisearch for our Expert Witness work, which in turn will attract a different fee rate as negotiated from the onset.
Our Court assessments and reports can include the provision of expert opinion in regards to:
- Section 32 Assessments
- Independent Family Court Reports
- Parenting Capacity & Competence
- Diagnostic and Statistical Manual - Fifth Edition (DSM-V) Criteria (e.g. Mental Health, Intellectual Disability and Developmental Disorder Diagnosis)
- Intellectual, Psychological & Developmental Capacity/Status
- Links between psychological factors and offending behaviours or circumstances of incidents
- Mental state and psychological factors affecting individuals currently and during the time of an alleged commission of an offence
