Child & Adolescent Psychologist
Ms Madeline Cordingley, MAPS
Madeline Cordingley obtained a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from the University of Newcastle and is registered as a provisional Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She completed a Master of Clinical Psychology with the University of Newcastle and is seeking to commence the Clinical Psychology Registrar program. Madeline is recognised as a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
Madeline has experience as a Behavioural Therapist, trained in Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), working mainly with children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She has also completed training and volunteered as a mentor for teenagers at risk of having difficulties with their mental health. Along with this, she has worked in Out of Home Care (OOHC) and respite services. Madeline has conducted the Cool Kids program for primary school aged children with anxiety and has implemented it in both group and individual formats.
Madeline is currently focusing on building skills in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), however she also has in interest in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as Motivational Interviewing. She believes in early intervention and using an approach based around the systems theory framework, involving other important people in children’s lives. Her main interests are in behaviour management and positive behaviour support, particularly for children with developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She also has an interest in childhood trauma and attachment.
Madeline’s research has been based around the mother-infant relationship and Infant Directed Speech (IDS), as well as adult attachment. This has included the relationship to social anhedonia and dispositional mindfulness.
Madeline engages with clients using a positive, energetic and supportive style. She has a passion for working with children and adolescents. She has worked with a range of ages and prides herself on being able to build rapport with individuals in an effective and genuine way.
