Child & Adolescent Psychologist

Zoe Guider Child Psychologist
Dr Eliza Skelton, MAPS
Dr Eliza Skelton attained her PhD (Psychiatry), Masters of Clinical Psychology (with distinction) and Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from the University of Newcastle. Eliza is a Clinical Psychology Registrar and a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS). She is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Eliza employs a client centred approach, drawing upon a collaborative spirit with clients. She tailors interventions based upon their needs and therapeutic goals. Eliza has experience and training in providing Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is experienced in completing assessment and therapy across the lifespan.

Eliza enjoys working a with range of mental health disorders, including anxiety and mood disorders, substance use disorders (including alcohol and nicotine), behavioural issues including Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), psycho-oncology and other chronic or ongoing health conditions. She has also delivered manualised therapies such as the Cool Kids Program (for primary school aged children with anxiety), How to be a Hard Target (for children experiencing bullying), and the Tuning Into Kids Program (emotional coaching for parents).

Eliza has a strong foundation in research and draws upon the evidence based literature for her clinical practice. She has designed a number of successful interventions to change modifiable health risk behaviours (alcohol, smoking, nutrition, physical activity). These interventions have also been successful at reducing psychological distress.

She is a member of the Hunter Cancer Research Alliance, Society for Research in Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT), and the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol & Other Drugs (APSAD). She currently holds a Conjoint Associate Lecturer position with the College of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle.
